LARS FRODE LARSEN (born 1948), a writer and one of Norway's leading Hamsun scholars. He took a doctor's degree in 1998 with a thesis on the young Knut Hamsun (from his birth in 1859 to his return from USA in 1888). Three years later he published Radikaleren/«The Radical», about Hamsun's life from 1888 to 1891, and in 2002 Tilværelsens udlænding/«Life's foreigner», about the years 1891-1893. Larsen is also editor of Hamsun's Samlede verker/«Collected Works» (2007-).

KNUT HAMSUN (1859-1952), Norwegian author of a number of novels, short stories and essays. Among his best-known works are Hunger, Victoria and Growth of the Soil. Hamsun was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 1920. His politics were highly controversial.
